Project Management for Special Events Workshop in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, KL on March 5-8, 2012

DTL Book

Every company and government organisation needs an accountable system for their events. In the modern world events produce substantial benefits for an organisation. Approval and reporting are all part of this management.

Delegation, measuring success and risk management are essential for the events planning. Project management provides this framework. Whether it is a corporate function, a festival, an exhibition, a conference, seminar or sports event, the client or host organisation must ensure that best practice is used in its management of events.

To help you make this a reality, Events Advisory Asia proudly presents its four-day workshop, entitled "Project Management for Special Events Seminar" on March 5-8, 2012 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Led by William O'Toole, the world's expert in the application of project management to events, the workshops contain numerous examples and scenarios as well as solid and applicable templates.

William O'Toole has written three international textbooks on events management and has over 25 years hands on experience in the creation, management and delivery of events around the world.

The workshops are refined from working with over six thousand event managers in over 50 countries. Here are a few of their comments from recent workshops:

'It gave me the keys to manage the event and the details to work on it.'

~ Abu Dhabi Airport Corporation

'I learned new techniques in event management. But most importantly how to structure my work/thoughts and document in a Professional manner.'

~ Talal Al Mansoor, Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company

'This course was worth every dollar and much more.'

~ Funmi, Nosurprise Events, Nigeria

'It was an excellent chance to share the experience between

participants'

~ Mr. Sultan Al Amri Oman L.N.G. LLC. Oman

'Great event, great course, great organisation, great presenter, thanks a lot!'

~ Mr. Qais Mohammad Al Marzouqi Event Management Public Relation Officer Tawam Hospital U.A.E.

'I'll come back for another course, excellent organisation, not boring, keeping everyone attention- the most important issue. Well Done!'

~ Ms. Ghada Darwish External Affairs Executive Qatar Science & Technology Park Qatar

'A wonderful event, a great course.'

~ Mr. Mutaz Qarem Project Manager Zain - Jordan

'Very practical information based on real projects and life experience. Focus on examples from the area but with international experience.'

~ Ms. Muhra Rashed Al Muhairi Department of Municipal Affairs U.A.E.

The material is presented in an interactive atmosphere so that all the participants are engaged. Their event problems are discussed and real solutions are provided.

For example - do these problems sound familiar ?

  • Our event team seems to make the same mistakes over and over again
  • There is always a panic
  • I have no idea how it is going until the night of the dinner. I just have to hope
  • The person in charge forgot to bring the awards on the night
  • The suppliers did not deliver the right item
  • We are never sure if the event worked or not, so we don't know if we should repeat it next year
  • There are always last minute changes and we have to rush around changing the operations.
  • Hardly anyone replies to our invitations, so we never know how many people will come
  • Nobody signs their contracts on time - we always have to chase them
  • Our budget always blows out! No one can keep to their allocated amount

Project Management is a well tested collection of tools and techniques to create and deliver a product, in our case, an event. These tools and techniques have been refined over millions of projects into a series of processes. They have to be adapted to fit the dynamic events environment. They work and allow the organisation, whether it is a company or a government department, to improve their events over the years.

Project Management allows the events team to deliver the event as well as communicate in a clear and concise way to the rest of the organisation. It produces status reports and identifies the problems before they become disasters at the event itself. The terminology of project management is the terminology of modern business.

It is essential for the modern event management team to understand risk as it has become the legal standard around the world. The problems in events are numerous and tend to get repeated.
